I setup a test:
I set as follows:
mssfix 1000 (the iphone would not take the myvpn.opvpn file with it
like this so I did:
mssfix 1420
And I got in the log UNUSED OPTIONS
[mssfix] [1420]

*MTU packet loss over UDP. Set the MTU stupid low, like 1000. If it
works, you know it was an MTU problem, and you can work on an optimal
MTU, rather than 1000. But it's a quick thing you can test.
[This is a result of packet fragmentation over UDP and many providers
don't forward through the ICMP status that your packet was dropped and
that you should lower the packet size.]
