Hi
I am trying to setup a VPN for research purposes wherein I use OpenVPN as
a client and use AWS to setup the VPN. Basically the idea is that the
closed user-group of mobile users should be able to log all their network
traffic by connecting to the VPN and then do their usual browsing. Is this
kind of setup possible using OpenVPN and AWS? Please let me know if
anybody as done this.
please rephrase your question:
- is it possible to use OpenVPN inside AWS? sure it is, as long as you
pay Amazon
- is it possible to have a closed user-group of mobile users ? also
possible, depending how you set up your certificates
- "should be able to log all their network traffic" ? what do you mean
by this? only the server admin of the VPN can log all network traffic,
and sure, you can log all traffic flowing in and out of the VPN. Logging
the traffic for only a subset of the VPN users is trickier, but
possible. It depends largely on the type of tool you want to use for
logging. Wireshark? tcpdump?
- if you only want to collect usage statistics then you can use the
OpenVPN status file for that, without having to log anything further.
All in all, please rephrase your question(s) to be more precise if you
want a more useful answer.
