Hi, It looks like openvpn currently supports point-to-point and "subnet" topology modes. I would like to propose an additional mode called "aero" mode.
The aero topology mode is one in which clients issue DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation requests to receive a delegated prefix from the openvpn server. (The delegated prefix can be either IPv6 or IPv4.) The client then assigns addresses derived from the delegated prefix to the tun interface. The client does not have to act as a router, and host applications work the same as they would for any host. If the client needs to move from server A to server B, it can issue a new DHCPv6 PD request to get the same delegated prefix as the one it received from the original server. This implies that there is some networking needed between servers, but it allows the client to maintain stable addresses that never change even if the client is mobile. There are obviously more details than this, but the details have all been worked out, and I have demonstrator code that shows the mechanisms in action. It would be great if this new mode of operation could be considered for openvpn. Thanks - Fred fltemp...@gmail.com
