Sorry, no immediate ideas here. Did you see this error more often? Or can you perhaps even reproduce it at will? If you can, please test whether this is still present in 2.3 (there are debian packages of 2.3 available: https://community.openvpn.net/openvpn/wiki/OpenvpnSoftwareRepos).
