Back in my pptpd days, we had to patch the Linux kernel to provide MPPE "encryption", so it was indeed quite a chore to get it all working properly. The only howtos available were for other distros (my job was to get it working on Slackware), and as is typical of most random web howtos, they were written by people who really did not understand what they were doing. By the time we had ppp_mppe.ko in the mainline kernel, the excuses why we "had to use PPTP" were gone: no longer trying to pretend that Win9x had a legitimate place in business use, and openvpn had true client/server mode ... Yes, the kernel issue was by far the biggest obstacle in the path of pptpd deployment, so I suppose there could be truth to the "pptpd is easier" assertion. I cannot imagine why anyone would knowingly implement a broken protocol, however. -- http://rob0.nodns4.us/ -- system administration and consulting Offlist GMX mail is seen only if "/dev/rob0" is in the Subject: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get 100% visibility into Java/.NET code with AppDynamics Lite!
