HJ: You’re right, Steve. That’s why every project that had an existing
community-illustrated logo had first option to keep that mascot in the revised
logo, and in most cases they chose to do this. So Oslo’s moose, Senlin’s
forest, Tacker’s squid, and Cloudkitty’s cat (among others) will still be the
prominent feature in their logo.

acceptance will be greater if team members have played a part in the logo
design process or at least provided some feedback prior to the designs being
declared final?”

HJ: Absolutely. That’s why we encouraged project teams to work together to
select their mascot. I received dozens of team etherpads and Condorcet polls
from PTLs to show how the team decided their mascot candidates. The PTLs
confirmed their winners for the list you see on
http://www.openstack.org/project-mascots
<http://www.openstack.org/project-mascots>. You can also see an example of an
illustration style there, and we expect to have the first five logos (with the
final illustration style) in hand shortly.

It’s going to be a major effort to complete 50 illustrations x 3 logo
variations prior to Barcelona, but I think we can make it. That said, it’s not
possible to do several rounds of revisions with each project team and the
illustrators. What I’ve been doing instead is listening carefully to project
team requests and pulling photos to share with the illustrators that best show
what the teams intend. I’m happy to share that with anyone who asks.
