I agree. It is a lot easier to just develop on a Linux environment. You could set-up a Linux VM using VirtualBox or VMware tools to do this on Windows. You would then be aligned with tools and documentation in the community and hence better able to get up and running.

[...] In my experience, when developing software which runs primarily on Linux it's a lot more complicated to attempt to test it on non-Linux systems than it is to learn to use Linux instead (at least in a virtual machine somewhere). Similarly, I would not expect to be able to comfortably develop software under Linux when it's intended to mostly run on Microsoft Windows or Apple Macintosh. I personally just use Linux as my development platform.
