Perhaps what you're looking for is the legacy RSA key format (PEM
or DER encoded).

        -----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
        -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

The "openssl rsa" command (unlike the "pkey" command) outputs RSA
keys in either DER or PEM formats.
