Hi All,
I'm having a bit of an issue with OpenSSL and "blank" shells. This is
kind of a cross-product issue, but I'll do my best to describe.
Basically, I'm working with a product called RealBasic. It has a
SHELL class that allows direct access to the local system's shell
(whether it be Mac OS X, Linux, or Windows). This shell, however, is
"blank", starts you in the root directory, and reads absolutely no
configuration scripts -- it is, for all intents and purposes a "dummy"
shell. For whatever reason, whenever I use the shell class to make a
secure POP3 connection to any mail server, I can successfully use the
TOP command, but I can't successfully send the RETR command. I
receive multiple certificate validation errors, etc.
The puzzling piece is, I can perform all operations from a regular
"terminal" session (even on a 100% clean OS install with no known
certificates retrieved, etc.) just fine -- but, when using the RB
shell, I get errors (only with secure connections).
So, my first question is, what are the minimum requirements for
successfully communicating with a POP3 server via OpenSSL? I'm sure
there are environment variables etc that need to be set up. If
someone could provide me with what items need to be where, what
directories need to be writable, etc, that would help tremendously.
Also, if my question isn't clear or if more info is required, feel
free to post or contact me off list and I'll do my best to explain
more clearly.
Best,
Michael
