I'm not sure, p-curves are prime filed elliptic curves GF(p) and all
arithmetic is performed modulo p where p is treated as number (not
polynomial). Points coordinates over this field are treated as numbers.
b-curves are binary field elliptic curves GF(2m) and all arithmetic is
performed modulo irreducible polynomial. Points coordinates over this
field are treated as polynomials.
This is my understanding of this suffixes.
