OK, I think I finally got it. You are using the set of binaries published on the stunnel websites and some scripts from SecurityFocus (I missed the bottom lines on the first mail...).

The binaries on stunnel are quite venerable (OpenSSL 0.9.7f 22 Mar 2005) and I can reproduce your error using those binaries.
If I replace them with current 0.9.8g binaries the error is gone.
If you have no other source, you may download the ones I did compile from https://secure.convey.de/publish/openssl-0.9.8g-win32.zip. Of course I don't give any guarantees! ;)
