You might try installing the GNU binutils and gas instead of the solaris assembler and linker and see if that helps. People have had problems before using gcc and feeding the result to the solaris linker, and in fact there's a patch for gcc mentioned in the openssl readme or faq or some such. (I don't know if it's appliable to you)
