Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone uses Entropy Gathering And Distribution
System (EGADS)? I'm using it on Windows. But I just noticed, it is a
HUGE memory hog. Just starting up the egads service, it immediately
takes up almost 150Mb of RAM.
Does that sound right? Just wanted to here other people's experience
with it, and if there are other options for gathering entropy on
windows; something that doesn't require user interaction such as mouse
clicks, etc. since the machine is a server.
Which Windows and which openssl version are you using? On Windows 2000
upwards at least openssl 0.9.7 (I haven't checked out 0.9.6, but it
might be woth a look) uses the RNG of Windows Crypto API to seed it's
PRNG, which is most possibly the best (because of OS-Support) source of
entropy on Win2000 and upwards. If you're not totally paranoid about
Bill's desire to rule the world this should be sufficient. BTW, if you
are, you're using the wrong OS ;)
Thanks,
Ed
Hope this helps.
