        Are you sure that isn't just because the tool you were using only supports
SSLv3?

I'm using Mozilla. The about page shows me this information:
        Mozilla 1.6
        Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040113

I checked the preferences->privacy&security->SSL. All SSL protocol versions
are enabled in there including version2 version3 and TLS!
