This question turns out not to be basically kind of confused since
SSL and SET are rather more different than they are similar.

SSL is a generalized protocol for producing a secure channel
between two parties. It can incidentally be used to carry
credit card numbers. It is widely deployed.

SET is a protocol for doing online secure credit card transactions
clearing. It has seen almost no deployment.
