I'm talking about adding more fine-grained locking.  It horifies me
(perhaps unjustly) that all X.509 operations may be locked out just
because on instance of a X.509 structure needs a lock, just to take
one small example.

Otherwise, threading support is there, even if not always perfect...
or do I misunderstand you?
