P.S. This connection would be performed through our Proxy server if that
introduces additional concerns!

Thanks

Subject: Need Help Sending Request via HTTPS

Please Help!

    Before I result to violence, I would like to humbly request some help
from those with experience in this area.

    I'm running MS WinNT 4.0 (SP5), MSVC++ 5.0, ActivePerl 5.005_003(build
513). I installed/compiled OpenSSL (version 0.9.4) yesterday and have been
trying like crazy to get the Net::SSLeay-1.05 and IO::Socket::SSL-0.73 perl
modules compiled!!!! I finally seem to have done it, but I'm not able to
do a simple connect!!!

    We are trying to eventually send data files to UPS, but all I want to do
is prove that I can get a response after I send a request. Using either
Netscape or IE, I can go to their initial login screen (
https://www.pld-certify.ups.com), <https://www.pld-certify.ups.com)>  then
proceed to a file upload screen. What do I have to do to connect to that
initial login screen using my newly acquired libraries????!!!! There also
has got to be something I have to do regarding certificates, but I don't
know how to proceed!

    Here is what happens when I try to use 'get_page.pl' from the 1.04
distribution of Net::SSLeay :

--------

./get_page.pl www.cryptsoft.com <http://www.cryptsoft.com>  443 /
C:\bin\perl\site\lib\Net\SSL\examples\get_page.pl 247: open_tcp_connection:
failed ` www.cryptsoft.com' <http://www.cryptsoft.com'> , 443 (Unknown
error)
Result was `HTTP/1.0 900 NET OR SSL ERROR

C:\bin\perl\site\lib\Net\SSL\examples\get_page.pl 247: open_tcp_connection:
failed ` www.cryptsoft.com' <http://www.cryptsoft.com'> , 443 (Unknown
error)
'
=================== Page follows =================

--------

    I also saw errors like this when I did a 'make test' for Net::SSLeay :

t\test1.............Use of uninitialized value at blib\lib\Net\SSLeay.pm
(autosplit into blib\lib\auto/Net\SSLeay/randomize.al) line 1159.
Random number generator not seeded!!!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
John Fierke
