A lot of completely unrelated programs are reporting the "deliver_request: socketpair failed 24 (Too many open files)" error (winbindd, hg, omd, Brother printers). Suggest you try two things: 1. Use 'lsof -p <pid>' while this occurs to see what is consuming all the file descriptors. Some additional options might be needed to get deeper information. 2. Bump the limit up in a process (ulimit -n 1024) and then use 'open' to start the viewer in that process and see if that works around the limit. I don't know what the real issue is but the internetz are full of *interesting* theories.
