And estate owners already took a huge beating over homesteads. We can't afford another hit by having homesteads be able to be directly leased by everyone.
I have HUGE sympathy for the original poster. I have eaten fees, given free tier and so on to people left in a world of hurt by such actions by other landlords. There is NO EXCUSE for not admitting to one's tenants what is going on, even if you can't afford to refund things, so that they can at least get their things, even if they can't make alternate arrangements for the region. Its irresponsible, unconscionable methods of doing business. Unfortunately, in SL anyone who can get the fees together to lease a region from LL can turn around and become an estate owner/reseller. Hmmm, come to think of it, same with web hosting.... I wish I had an empty homestead to offer, not that it would help with the things lost via absent partner, but I'd love to have a chance to restore faith that there are a few of us out there that are worth the respect of their tenants.
