Jeff,

I can't speak for Oracle, but I know that it's not (easily?) possible to
build/create your own EBS-backed AMIs...I attempted getting this working a
couple months ago but only came up with dead ends. One of my emails with a
Sun engineer suggested there are changes needed to be applied to the ramdisk
image used, but these can't be changed by customers.

Subject: [osol-discuss] EC2 -- OpenSolaris EBS-Backed AMI

Is there chance an opensolaris EBS-Backed AMI is in the works for for the
Amzon EC2.

Without this offering it is not possible to use snapshotting for "quick
builds" after deployments/changes.

To use the auto-scaling capabilities of the EC2 it is easier to have a
EBS-Backed AMI to remove the associated work of having to build a S3 AMI
after every deployment/change.

I have tried several attemtps to build my own AMI but always get stuck at
one point or the other.

Thanks..
