Hello everyone, I am just testing Solaris 11 Express on my Thinkpad. Installation runs smoothly, the system seems very responsive and has a nice professional look. Yes, I think Oracle engineers have done a really good job ;) And that is where the problem starts: I would like to use it as my standard OS at home, but I also do believe that access to critical security updates is an absolute requirement for any system that is connected to the web. And (really needless to say) as a private user, spending 1000 USD per year and system for a support contract is a no-go. So even though installation for standard desktop use at home may be tolerated (though not explicitly covered by the license), running an unpatched system cannot be an option in the long run...
I'm finding it still hard to believe that Oracle simply ignored the situation of home users (and basically the same holds for academics) -- any indication that a minimal support option (patches only) may become available? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
