I upgraded from and 3+ year old opteron to a Phenom II X4 in order to
run cluster test in virtualbox. So I had to use a different MB of
course.

Yes, seems so. I've got no problem with reinstalling from CD. Is there
an easy way of preserving /export/home, /opt and /usr/local when
reinstalling from CD, when disc layout is just the default stuff osol
09.06 chose at installation time?
