First, verify how much swap space you have with "swap -l".
The file IO is done on /tmp and this is backed by swap.
Also, /opt/SunStudio12 implies you have the original release of Studio12.
Studio12 Update 1 is unpacked into directory Studio12.1.
Have you tried Update 1?
