SHORT: Where is a OpenSolaris newbie to go? Is SX*E a dead-end and should I
not bother using anything here at the moment?

EXPLANATION: I am a use of Solaris since version 8, or closer really to 9.
and I just started looking into OpenSolaris. So I'm a OpenSolaris newbie. I
installed SXDE (which I believe I can safely call Nevada). Looks rather
finished and complete, other than no functional package updater. I went this
route over Indiana as I wanted to install on a sparc. Oddly I used 6 CDs for
this "Developer version" install, but got no developer tools....as if discs 2
through 5 were ignored.

But anyway...then I read about Indiana, and how its wireless capabilities may
be something to look into if I want to go mobile with a laptop. I got a LiveCD
of Indiana working on a IBM T41, but am stuck at a login screen on a Dell 4150
)read through docs, and there is no mention of what to use for a default user).
But on the IBM, things looked pretty, while of course a far cry from
completeness from Nevada. Sure, it's only a preview.

Why though? From my newbie point of view....and after reading a ton of the
fights about Indiana vs. OpenSolaris, and trademarks, and betrayed
community....and on and on....why is Indiana not using Nevada as a foundational
starting point, function-wise? Or is it? I'm very, very unclear with what is
going on here in OpenSolaris land. My newbie mind can't see why the
comeplet(er) version SXDE is being shelved and Indiana is being started?

What I really need is a geneologic map to understand the relationship between
Nevada (a finished-looking product that will likely soon be discontinued,
according to what I've read in this forum) and Indiana (a successor of Nevada
that strangely looks like a subset of Nevada...even though I know this is only
a developer preview).

So I have a choice between a version that is about to be discontinued (SX*E),
or waiting until next Spring for hopefully a release of a fully functional
product, which may be called OpenSolaris, Sun OpenSolaris, Indiana, OpenSolaris
Reference....or....?

In other words, what do you guys hope for newbies to do?
Rob
