Since I have the nVidia drivers installed, I went to Application -> System
Tools -> NVIDIA S Server Settings. Clicked on "X Server Display Configuration"
and then on "Save to X Configuration File" and typed /etc/X11/xorg.conf .
So now I DO have a configuration file, but the compiz system checking script
just stops there.
I tried installing Compiz 0.5.0 prior to this. It seemed to install, but
refused to run:

# /usr/bin/run-compiz
gtk-window-decorator: Could not acquire decoration manager selection on screen
0 display ":0.0"
# compiz: No composite extension

Now everything just stops at the checking stage. Even the standalone perl
script for checking the system stops at the same place.

Should I uninstall the existing 0.5.0 install first?

Thanks!
