It's interesting how Ubuntu does it. They point you to external sources, that they don't vouch for the codecs. (They just make the install painless. IE: Unrecognized filetype/streamtype. Do you want me to look for one that work? If you say yes... and you are looking at a quicktime file, it points you to a non apple codec, which I am pretty sure is not kosher.
