As far as I know, ATI has no plans to release Solaris drivers themselves. > ATI mentioned they support the open source developers > wanting to work on ATI video device drivers for > "alternate" OS platforms. Really? Where did you hear that? Their actions seem to be consistently the opposite of that. -- -Alan Coopersmith- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering --------------------------------------- Hi, Hmmm.. thought it was well known. Here is the quote from ATI's web page on open souricing their driver code: "http://ati.amd.com/products/catalyst/linux.html#2 Q4: Is complete driver source code available? A4: Some of the technologies supported in our driver are protected by non-disclosure agreements with third parties, so we cannot legally release the complete source code to our driver. It is NOT open source. We do, however, include source code for the control panel and certain other public segments. We also actively assist developers in the Open Source community with their work, so if you absolutely require an open source driver for your graphics card, we can recommend using drivers from the DRI project, Utah-GLX project, or others." >From there I know that Xi Graphics (i.e. XiG) provide support ATI device driver development under their own OpenGL 3D implementation for Sun Solaris. ~ Ken Mays ____________________________________________________________________________________ Get the free Yahoo! toolbar and rest assured with the added security of spyware protection. http://new.toolbar.yahoo.com/toolbar/features/norton/index.php _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
