Thomas may have chosen the installer's defaults. Unfortunately, the installer defaults to a root slice with just barely enough space to install the default package cluster plus a small percentage of overhead and a huge /export/home partition. This might make sense for huge servers where root might only need enough space for patches and odd bits of 3rd party software, but it isn't ideal for developers or early adopters of Solaris on laptops and desktop PCs.
