Its a question of preference.
Agreed.
Solaris is a far superior OS in the
kernel etc. Userland it just isn't. Nexenta is a really nice bridge
between the two. Frankly, if you need to get hot around the collar
about this issue its alright.
And here we have to agree to disagree, vehemently. When I work with Linux,
and lately, I've been working with Linux a lot, I get really infuriated with
all the "improvements" GNU has brought. Why can't it just work like System
V, just like all the other major UNIXes do?
It's extremely annoying, not to say counter productive, to have to cope with
GNU stuff. I'm frustrated by how many commands don't behave the way they are
expected to, and yet how many more break just about everything that's good
about UNIX.
The point is, don't be too quick to pass judgement that Solaris's userland
isn't nice, because the same or even worse could be said for Linux.
And at this point I specifically don't take the "clicky-bunty" tools into
consideration as "userland" because they're just pretty, useless eye candy
on both operating systems.
