It looks like the signed off spec tight way to go is Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 4 AS 64-bit in order to run 64-bit virtual Solaris 10 revs. I have
tried Solaris 10 in the past ( on VMware ) and been told that my processor
rev was too low to run in 64-bit mode. The 64-bit nature of Solaris is
important to me.

One thing to keep in mind though is that even if you have a 64bit CPU that does not mean you can run a 64bit VMware guest. With Opteron you need RevE0 or better and with Intel you need any that have explicit VM support. Also, you don't need a 64bit host OS to run 64bit guests.

Also, so far 64bit Solaris has been a mixed bag for me in VM's. I have SNV52 running on one right now that works great so far in 32bit mode but in 64bit it will panic when running setup_install_server from a CD. It dumps as soon as it starts copying files from disk. Does it every time. In 32bit it works great.

Since I am not an engineer capable of properly diagnosing it I would be more than willing to give someone VMWare Console access to look at it if they want.
