Why not just add the list names you want to post to to your e-mail client's address book? Posting to the actual published name of the list isn't confusing at all, it's expected behavior.
If anything, a weaker matching of names would be confusing. In particular, when it stops working as another list alias with a similar name is created
(eg. opensolaris-discuss@ and then later opensolaris-somethingelse@). -- Regards, Joshua M.
