Because we speak about the CDDL here. This was the theme of the original post. The uncertainty about CDDL holds interesting devs and projects back. I am not going to speak about the CDDL anywhere. I am not a lawyer. BUT it is Suns work to clear all questions about the CDDL. They have written it. They know all things about. They have the lawyers who can clear all questions. > Why should talking about OpenSolaris have anything to > do with Sun Microsystems, Inc.? Technically speaking, > OpenSolaris is in the domain of the OpenSolaris > community. Sun might be the biggest contributor, but > that doesn't make promoting OpenSolaris the company's > responsibility. It is Suns responsibility to build a community around their product and project. They have the best people regarding (Open)Solaris. If Sun wants that their product and project get "uptake" - as the first poster says - then they should make even free trainings about OpenSolaris: The trained people can then develop more quality code for OpSol. > It is people like you who should take matters into > their own hands. What do you think, how did Linux get > so much traction? Exactly because his advocates > promoted it anywhere and everywhere! Linux (and also GNU) was and is and will be a community project from the beginning. First both - Linux and GNU - were one man projects. Then they became big projects. OpSol was not long ago a closed project which trained devs and engineers sat at Sun and nowhere else (maybe at some other big company, too, okay). Now Sun wants that we the free sw community take this OpSol and make interesting projects around it. Okay: Then clear this one question: Is the CDDL compatible with the GPL or not? I don't want here IANAL like answers. I want an answer of a lawyer who wrote the CDDL. I want an answer of a lawyer who has the knowledge and qualification to answer it . He has to answer it only one time. Before that you will not "get" the big free sw community. I am not speaking here about this or that engineer with a workplace around Solaris. I am speaking here about the "army" of thousands of Gentoo and Debian and all GNU users and devs. You don't want them? It is okay. Then don't wonder about not getting "uptake". best regards, gba This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
