It occurred to me today that there is overlap but it isn't perhaps
a complete overlap as one might tend to believe.

The embedded community isn't just "appliances".
It is also many other things - for examples, cars.

Wouldn't it be cool if the OS behind your car's electronics was
Solaris rather than some Microsoft product? As a case in point,
I believe that some Mercedes Benz cars have Microsoft Windows
based systems in them, for better or worse.

If you believe that this would help Sun, why then is Sun unresponsive
regarding project proposals we (at Fokus) did make to Sun some time ago?
We have the connections to Mercedes and they even like a Solaris based project. Unfortunately, Sun does not seem to be interested anymore since we did talk with a related person at CeBIT.

Probably because not everyone at Sun's knows everyone else and we don't all necessarily agree on everything!

Also don't assume that just because Darren is posting from @Sun.COM that he is speaking for Sun, maybe he just had a cool idea in the shower this morning and he likes cars (I happen to know he does!).

Sounds like the stuff you were discussing with someone at Sun may have been outside of the context of OpenSolaris, possibly subject to NDA/CDA. So please don't drag OpenSolaris into that. If you have issues with your local Sun sales and development people please take that up through the appropriate Sun channels; this alias is not an appropriate channel for that.
