The OpenOffice.org people (internally anyway) all use Usenet for keeping
up with mailing
lists - from an enterprise point of view makes WAY more sense than
e-mail since there
is a single repository (with mirroring capabilities if needed though)
which means each
employee's mailbox isn't being filled with crazy amounts of e-mail each day.
Eclipse (*cough*) also uses Usenet for their forums, I'm sure there are
plenty of others too.
Of course there is nothing to stop any Usenet server being set up, all
you have to do
is to configure the Usenet server to recieve e-mails from an e-mail
alias, and
in turn, send posts to the alias. Then any one who prefers that medium
can use it.
I'm sure we could request this of the internal Usenet servers, but of
course it would make
a lot more sense if this was done on the opensolaris.org server.
So +1 from me,
Darren.

Actually, the best interface would be the good old usenet. Granted, there
is already usenet-like interface through gmane.org, but that one is read
only. Can we please employ our newsreaders for opensolaris discussion
groups? I would say that, although that might sound a bit strict, if
usenet interface seem too technical for discussions, then most of
OpenSolaris groups would be over your head anyway.
Seconded. Usenet (w/o expiry, if we need to history) is for me
by far the most efficient medium.
