Although Garrett answered you, the measurable quantifiable answer will allude 
many of us.

Based on observation and maybe old notes, I wouldn't say 95% of OpenSolaris
is based on Sun's IP. Close inspection of the OpenSolaris kernel tells the 
story.
The other part is core environment and userland. Many of those things existed 
before "Solaris" or SunOS existed (or spawned elsewhere beforehand).

There were many 'concepts' before ZFS existed. There were many package 
management projects underway before IPS came along. Many of the device drivers 
were collaborated projects with other IHVs/ISVs or independent contractors.

I'm not trying to take the 'spoon out the mouth' - but I think we know that 
many colleges, universities, businesses, organizations, and independent 
contributors (aka the community) are part of that big umbrella of 95% - as well 
as the remaining 5%....

Even an island is part of a large underwater ecosystem...
