What processor is the failure seen on? An exhaustive test of strcpy(3C) for overlapped s1 and s2 fails on Nehalem but behaves as expected on an Opteron 2222. I do not yet know about Intel Core.
For the small sizes I have initially looked at on nehalem, all failures are with s2 either s1+1 or s1+2. The offending offsets are not straightforward; they appear to be a combination of both offsets. I will ask the code authors to look into this. I will be out until next year.
