Agreed.
I also seem to remember that building Java files in the gate was a
problem, especially on incremental builds. make doesn't understand Java
very well, and I seem to remember that all the Java stuff is completely
rebuilt every time, even on incrementals. Building the Java stuff with
Ant might also yield some benefits.
