Hi Eckhard,

please do no remove any of the tags, if there isn't a valid reason. When something is tagged with railway=rail, it means that these are tracks are full size (normal gauge for the country) and carry passenger or freight.

Removing the railway=rail would be considered "tagging for the renderer", which is not a good practise. The rail is correctly tagged, when it's normal gauge and when there's a reason for the "railway:preserved=yes", it being a historically preserved railway.

If it's not normal gauge but something else, please check the wiki [1] for possible values.

The preserved information is currently NOT supposed to be rendered differently, but provide additional information about that bit of track.

Kai

Hi Kai, does it mean that I have to delete the railway=rail tag? I fear that will let the track disappear in Openstreetmap? JOSM raises several warnings:

    Hello Eckhard,

    the way you linked is railway:preserved=yes, but also
    railway=rail. The
    railway=-tagging always takes precedence over rendering as preserved.
