I see there are some lively debates now and as a maintainer, it just isn't possible to dive into every discussion.
My approach to this, is to let discussions run their course before applying patches. Usually there will be a flurry of posts, some heated, and then usually after a week or so when everybody has had their say and tempers cool, then someone will come forward with a patch that satisfies everybody as a step in the right direction that is enough of an improvement on the current situation that it merits merging. When this happens, then the community is functioning IMHO. A more dysfunctional case is when there is a lot of posts, much complaining, heated replies and no patch in sight. Oftentimes all that is required is a bit of patience to wait for that patch. -- Øyvind Harboe Can Zylin Consulting help on your project?
