Are you sure that all NXP M3 do it? Which one did you look at? I'm interested in LPC1343, and looking closer at it now, it can be in-system-programmed via USB or UART, besides via SWD. Interesting! I will have to get one and play a little with it. Still interested in anything else you know about SPI though. And of course I'd also be happy to test SWD - but I'm not even sure if I would need new hardware..
