The problem with doing math with kilobytes in your head is that most people refer to kibibytes as kilobytes. Anyway, the difference is so small (1024 vs 1000) that it would probably be preferable to use kibibytes anyway, if for no other reason than evangelization of IEC-defined SI standards.
