There's lots of these around the code:
fields[2].out_value = field2_out;
buf_set_u32(fields[2].out_value, 0, 5, 7); /* set bit 0-4 to 7*/
This could be rewritten to:
fields[2].out_value = field2_out;
field2_out[0]=7; /* set bit 0-4 to 7 */
