You mean the event gdb-detach?
I'm using it to shutdown openocd when done debugging. In particular, I
have a GUI and launch openocd on request; I find it cleaner (and easier)
to shut down openocd into the hook instead of killing the process.

The hooks are interesting, even if the default action is to do nothing.
Unless they *really* mess up the code, my vote is for keeping both of 
the hooks.
