I highly recommend using 'ccache' to everyone that reads this.  That
said, ccache is not a panacea, and I admit that there is a small but
real price to pay for this upgrade.  ccache at least makes it bearable.

Indeed; I have a Qt GUI in mind.  I know what must be done to OpenOCD in
order to make it usable for such, but that goal seems a lifetime away.
