I agree in principle, but that's a difficult thing to nail down because
what's necessary for one may not be necessary for another.

I guess it comes down to how much behavior you want controllable at runtime
versus compile time.  Anyhow, to stay to the topic of discussion, I can think
of cases where this might be useful, so I wouldn't remove the feature
completely.
