The restrictions in the GPL control redistribution, not what changes
you make. That is, for your own use you can do anything with it, but
if you are going to redistribute anything, you must do it all under
GPL terms - meaning you cannot add components with licenses that are
not compatible with the GPL, you must make the source available, and
you cannot prohibit further redistribution under GPL terms. If you
are planning a commercial product you probably need legal advice on
the specific details as they apply to anything that could be
considered a 'derived work' under copyright terms.
