Allen,

Personally I download the latest build of OM 2.0 from the
https://builds.apache.org/job/openmeetings/

As for which linux distro to use, that is mostly your choice. I have
used both Debian 32/64 and Ubuntu 32/64. I guess my preference is
Debian 32 bit, I see some people use Red Hat and other Centos. I guess
we have our own reasons why we like particular distros.

For an overview I recommend following the install instructions from
http://incubator.apache.org/openmeetings/installation.html and then use
Stephens guides (see links below) for a step by step approach to
installing OpenMeetings and the packages that it is dependent on.

I would recommend manually installing ffmpeg and swftools as Ubuntu
packages are a little behind the current application versions.

I always find that the applying these packages to my OpenMeetings server
does not always go as planned or as indicated in the instructions, and
so if you have any issues, please post back here and see if we can help.
For example if I manually build SWFTools in either Debian or Ubuntu, I
get warnings and sometimes errors but I have learned that a) warnings in
Ubuntu can be ingnored, b) how to resolve the errors.

Brian who likes to use Ubuntu posted this information " I often use 3rd
party PPA's to install software I need rather than compile from source
but will resort to that if I can't get what I need installed."

Ubuntu and Debian guides have been updated and uploaded here:

Subject: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS/OM 1.8.X Migration?? 1.9.X or 2.0?

Hi all -

I've been running OM 1.8 for some initial beta testing and internally
for about 6 months. I had to shelve the project for a while, but now
I'm back in working on it.

I've read the emails and the new Wiki - I have not found any type of
migration guide to the current release(s).

So, my questions are:

Which is considered the latest "stable" release? 1.9, or has 2.0 been
marked as generally deployable?

If I wish to deploy 2.0, do I need to upgrade to Ubuntu 12 LTS or are
the dependencies for 2.0 able to run under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with
appropriate packages?

Also, if I do need to go to Ubuntu 12 LTS, is the path basically

- Backup OM 1.8

- Upgrade Ubuntu to 12

- Upgrade associated packages to proper releases (if not done by 12
upgrade)

- Run OM 2.0 install for upgrade (Tutorial?? Do I need to step to OM
1.9.X first??)

- Confirm that OM 2.0 imported settings/restore OM 1.8 config

If the "easy" answer is wipe and put the Ubuntu 12/OM 2 ISO in then
fine, but I think I'd like to try the migration method first. I'd hate
to have to rebuild everything from scratch.

Thanks!

Allen
