I am aiming for Jitsi as that has Voting support built in and we used it for a Meeting with another Association before. It Can be self hosted and offers Free Public Options too. It's a common tool for associations here in Europe.

Also the Framasoft people offer all those tools aswell. All of which are OpenSource themselves https://degooglisons-internet.org/en/

For ARM development Checkout https://github.com/richlowe/arm64-gate/ it's pretty active with 4 Contributors. We can ofcourse also check with them and the ARM mailing list if Funding would be an option.

We could use something like Zoom for online meetings and then using something

to see a gradual supporting of ARM (when/where it makes sense of course!).

Subject: Re: [OpenIndiana-discuss] Formation of an OpenIndiana Association:
Call for initial members

Hello All

With the Responses filing in we are currently at 12 Members. As I get a
couple of Questions a lot I think it is time to address these questions.

- Meeting location: We will have any Voting Meeting online or a way for
Mail in Balloting. One meeting once a Years is mandatory as a
Association is a microscopic Democratic Organisation. It thus requires
that the members sign off on the Associations Financial Report and the
members need to ratify that the Admin team has done it's Duty
(Entalstung des Vorstandes). We do not want to add more topics to this
meeting as we already have Online Communication channels such as this list.

- Funding Scope: During the Talks in the OpenIndiana Maintainer meeting
and now again in direct mails it came up that the Scope of projects we
are talking about are beneficial to the illumos project as a whole. For
reference the projects we are talking about are:
- Porting AMDGPU
- General gfx acceleration work (lots is being done by contributors now
but some Code Bounties here and there do motivate more people)
- Wifi
- Power Management
- Other Desktops
- CPU Compute (CUDA and AMD Pendant)
- Desktop Utilities

- Reach: I have heard from some people that they would like to have
OpenIndiana on their desktops while working with OmniOS on the Server.
Are so few people in illumos-discuss now that I could not reach them?
Are some of the pure omnios users interested in getting more illumos on
different Hardware?

- Funding targets: To gather smaller funds up to a couple hundred Euros
a month individual Patreons etc. where sufficient. But to fun projects
in the Scale above we would be talking of Funding Goals of about 50'000
Euros to 150'000 Euros for certain projects (Mainly AMDGPU) this
requires us to go to Companies and Foundations to Fundraise. And for
that we need a legal Entity so the Foundations can be sure that people
don't run away with the Money. Members can contribute to those Project
goals ofcourse but it is not part of the Members fee.

Please also share this Mail with people you think would be interested
but maybe not on the List.

If you are in principal interested in membership but think you can't
join now. What is blocking you?

Hello All

During the last Months the Wish for an OpenIndiana Association became
more concrete and during the last Maintainer meetup the concrete steps
where discussed. The first step in the Process is to see if enough
people would be willing to become members in order for it to be worth to
run the Administrative overhead.

The Association is mainly intended as a Regulatory body to handle
Fundraising for development and secondarily to Fund infrastructure for
the Main project. While membership fees are Mandatory in the
Juristications we are looking at starting the Association, they are
mainly inteded to run the Administrative overhead. The main source of
Funding should be via Fundraising.

We are looking for at least 25 people willing to pay 30 Euros per Year
and participate in the "Vereinsversammlung"(Association Meetup) once per
Year. We plan to keep the barriers for Entry low so we want this Meeting
to be Online. There are tools now that allow for this while satisfying
the regulatory requirements. In that meeting you will have the
possibility to vote on the Agenda topics and Budget of the Association.

If you are interested in joing the Association please respond to this Mail.

If you know somebody or a Hobby group where we could find people
interested plese share this mail with them.

Please feel free to ask any Questions regarding the Association on the
OpenIndiana Discussion List openindiana-discuss@openindiana.org

Looking forward to build this with you all
