I have verified all the USB ports on the Z840 using the flash drive and all function properly.
The 4 TB ZFS volume is still getting scrubbed.on 2017. I have another identical drive not in ZFS format. Both WD drives are USB 3 with the double connector at the drive end. The 2nd one which is a "fuse" filesystem according to Debian, also does not appear via mdb on the Z840. So that makes a port power problem a high probability. Drive runs, but does not respond on the Z840. Also works fine with a 3rd Z400 running Debian. Two WD drives work with three Z400s, but not the Z840. It's a bit hard to believe that HP would not supply adequate power to the front panel USB ports, but then nothing surprises me about the corporate world today. If that's the problem I can fix that. Have soldering iron, travel not required. Time to make a cable that lets me use a pair of 3478As to read voltage and current with a scope probe connection and decoding for the data lines and power rails. Or buy one. that's a lot of connections to make. Thanks. That makes sense. Reg On Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 07:30:15 PM CST, Joshua M. Is it powered by the USB port, or does it also have an external power pack? If there aren't any log messages showing up at all when you plug Y into C, it could potentially be a port power supply issue. Cheers. -- Joshua M.
