Hi All,
After being in the Windows, Linux, and BSD world for many years, I
have recently started exploring illumos-based distros like
OpenIndiana, SmartOS, OmniOS, and Tribblix as well as testing them out
since I am switching over now due to the many features and stability
that I have noticed in illumos. Of course, it can always use more
hardware development but I think that will come in time as well.
With that in mind, I am seeking some type of text based application,
or library (C/C++) that will identify bare-metal hardware on a
computer system (i.e. CPU, GPU, Monitors, HDD, USB devices, etc.) such
that it might be used to determine the needed drivers that should be
installed like Nvidia, etc.
Probably, OpenIndiana-Hipster may already have something like this,
and I would like to try and locate the source code and application if
possible, but if not, then maybe someone knows of a good library that
might be used as a starting point for this type of Hardware
Identification Program (HIP).
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and have a
great day,
Lonnie
